Renovation of bench seating was part of a full pub renovation, with the client taking the opportunity of national lockdown to refresh their client appeal. We removed the stool and existing fixed bench seating, taking both frames and cushions away for the reupholstery; this meanwhile enabled the bar to be repolished and the whole pub refreshed with new flooring.

When stripping back the old upholstery, we were amazed by the poor build-up of materials that had previously been used, explaining the extent to which the seats had been worn down to the point where they looked and felt uncomfortable.  After discussion with the client, we decided to implement a new innovative and superior internal springing method of Flexicor springs, to combat recurrence of the excessive breakdown we had discovered.  This is a system made from high-tech plastic injection-moulded springs, inserted into premium reflex foam for a seat interior that is excellent for comfort and durability – guaranteed for its first 10 years.

Well acquainted with the necessary properties of seat fabric in the restaurant/pub setting, we proposed a range of durable, wipeable fabrics.  The client’s choice was a wipeable velour – a practical yet luxurious-looking finish.  At this point it was also mutually agreed to use a contrasting colour for the piping and buttons within the seating, injecting some colour and life to the pub’s atmosphere.  Ensuring re-fitting of the benches worked within the renovation schedule, we put the seating back as it was – yet significantly improved both in aesthetics and comfort.
